Retired Russian general Vladimir Shamanov who heads the State Duma Defense Committee said that after the end of the current Russian military operations in Syria, there will be a need for series of special operations that may last a longer period of time, in order to permanently cleanse Syria of all the remnants of the terrorists.

“I would be happy if all military operations were completed before the end of the current year, but it seems that after the completion of the general military operations, a period of special operations will be needed”, Shamanov was heard saying.

“Many of them will try to shave their beards, many will try to join the administration, and some will also try to infiltrate the local self-governing bodies, and so on, and fighting off these will be a long process”, he added.

The retired Russian general has years of experiences in countering terrorism behind.

He also played a prominent role in getting Chechnya rid off the terrorist threat.
