The UN Under-Secretary-General and Emergency Relief Coordinator Mark Lowcock, yesterday arrived in Yemen in the scope of his four-day visit to the country.
The purpose of the visit is to discuss ways with the competent authorities to improve the humanitarian situation in Yemen and to reaffirm the strong commitment of the United Nations to alleviate the suffering of all Yemenis.
“More than 7 million people in Yemen need humanitarian assistance to survive”, Lowcock said, stressing that millions of people do not have access to adequate healthcare, water and sanitation.
The UN Under-Secretary-General and Emergency Relief Coordinator said at least 850,000 cases of cholera have been registered since April.
Lowcock assured that during his stay in Yemen he will pay close attention to the problems and needs of the most vulnerable groups of the Yemeni population.
Meanwhile, reports came that at least 11 members of the Saudi-backed Hadi junta were killed and injured as a result of the clashes with the Houthi-led Yemeni Resistance forces in the Hamli area, located between the Mukha and Mouzah districts in the southwest of Taiz province.
Heavy artillery shelling by the Resistance also took place in the vicinity of Khalid Ibn Al Waleed camp.
In addition, the Houthi-led Resistance continued its offensive against the positions of Hadi junta loyalists in Marib province, where eight members of the junta were left dead or wounded in a surprise operation, targeting their positions south of Al Mattar hill.
In the vicinity of the Marib-Jawf gas field, located onshore the northern Al Jawf province, the Houthi-led Resistance launched a heavy artillery shelling attack on Hadi junta loyalist positions at Camp Al Slan in Al Maslub district, killing several loyalists in the process.
The Saudi-led coalition fighter jets carried out 13 airstrikes, targeting Houthi positions in the area of Ayad in the district of Harad, located in the province of Hajjah in northwestern Yemen, in a response to the intense rocket and artillery shelling coming from the side of the Resistance.
