The Iraqi flag has once again flown all over Kirkuk after the Iraqi Forces took control of the city earlier on Monday.

The city of Kirkuk is famous for several oil fields in the vicinity that make up a large part of Iraq’s oil exports.

From June 12th 2014 until today, Kirkuk city was under occupation of Peshmerga, the military force of the Iraqi Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG).

On Monday, however, Peshmerga units fled the area after losing several of its soldiers in clashes with Iraqi Forces.

The Iraqi Forces have also taken control of many important areas within Kirkuk province, including airport and several oil refineries.
