People in Venezuela have commemorated the death of a prominent general who died while conducting operations against ISIS in eastern Syria last week.
Brigadier General Issam Zahreddin died last week on Saqr Island near Deir Ezzor city when his convoy was hit by a landmine planted by the terrorist organisation, killing the famous general.
He was buried in his home region of Sweida on Friday to the great sadness of the Syrian people who became inspired by his leadership as he fought ISIS on the front line with his soldiers. He prevented the downfall of Deir Ezzor as it underwent a near 3-year siege from ISIS, which was only broken last month.

Venezuela has been one of the very few states that has maintained cordial relations with Syria.
Syrian President Bashar al-Assad was close friends with the late Venezuealan leader Hugo Chavez.
