The official representative of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation Maria Zakharova called the head of the foreign policy department of Latvia Rinkevich “an aggregator of fake news”.

Rinkevich said earlier that the referendum in Catalonia was like “candy that fell to the floor for Moscow,” which Russia would use to split the EU.

“Candy that fell to the floor? My God, where do they get such great politicians, where do these birds come from with their high flights of fancy? This is not a minister, rather an aggregator of fake news,” Zakharova wrote on her Facebook page.

Zakharova also suggested that the Latvian Foreign Ministry decided to copy a page from the leadership of a neighboring country in a novel way, and issue a new volley of fakes.

“One question for Rinkevich: and did the Kremlin elect Grybauskaite in 2014?” – she summed up.

The King of Spain previously stated that the independence of Catalonia is illegal. The deputy chairman of the European Parliament. In contrast, the Austrian MEP from the Green Party Lunacek said that the referendum on the independence of Catalonia is the legitimate will of citizens, and the use of force by the Spanish authorities is unacceptable.

On September 6, the Parliament of Catalonia adopted a law on the referendum, where the question of declaring independence of the autonomous region from Spain will be presented. The plebiscite took place on 1 October. 90% of the Catalans voted for independence.
