Hungary: US creating a network of media outside of state control

The US State Department has allocated $ 700,000 to support independent Hungarian media and to ensure Hungarians’ access to “objective information about events in the country and the world”.

The money will be transferred to regional media. Publications based in the capital will not get anything. This is done in order to create an information network in Hungary that is beyond the control of the Hungarian government. In October, an American diplomat in Hungary, David Kostelyanchik, said that the government of Viktor Orban is putting pressure on the independent press and intimidating independent publishers.

The head of the office of the Prime Minister of Orban, Janos Lazar, called the words of Kostelyansky a delirium. It is understandable, because the so-called independent Hungarian media (not funded by the government) are totally dependent on external sources of funding. Washington needs a fifth column in Hungary.

Viktor Orban is not satisfied with the Americans: he is pursuing a policy of developing relations with China and Russia, refusing to obey Brussels on the issue of receiving migrants on EU quotas and is skeptical about Washington’s policy in Europe, including anti-Russian sanctions.

Hungary’s relations with China are developing particularly rapidly. As Hungarian Foreign Minister Péter Szijjártó said, “when the Chinese think about the economy and Europe, they immediately think of Hungary.” In July, the Chinese announced that they would connect Budapest by railroad with the Greek port of Piraeus, on the coast of the Aegean Sea, within the framework of the project “One belt, one way”

Will the money of the State Department help remove Victor Orban’s party from power, in these favourable conditions?
