Well, we all know that heroes don’t always wear capes – sometimes they drive garbage trucks. But how often does it happen that the most unlikely of people would have the necessary tools for an emergency situation, and is in the right place at the right time?

A Moscow garbage truck driver, Alexander Nesyaev, rescued a mother with two children from a house fire, by tearing down the iron grill that protected the 1st floor apartment window from the outside.

On the morning of November 24, Alexander arrived on his usual route to collect garbage when he heard cries for help from the apartment window on the first floor. The door was blocked by smoke and the family could not get out. No firefighters had arrived at that stage so the man decided to take matters into his own hands.

– “The window was open and smoke coming out from it. Children were crying saying there is a fire but they could not open the window grill.

I took some scrap metal from the truck and tried to ram the grill with it – it was no use. Then I got an iron tow from the truck, hooked it up to the grill and the vehicle, and tore it out at the root.”

Alexander pulled out a 5-year-old boy from the window, then his sister, and then the mother of the children.

The young man temporarily works as a garbage truck driver, having moved to Moscow from the Penza region. The Ministry of Emergency Situations will be presenting him with an award.
