Russian airline Aeroflot is fastest growing in the world

MOSCOW, Russia. Russian national airline “Aeroflot” has come out in first place in terms of transportation capacity growth. 

At the same time, the airline strengthened its position in the TOP-20 of the world’s largest carriers by the volume of freight containers, rising from the 20th to the 19th place. This rating data is of the reputable British agency OAG.

For 12 months as of September 2017 Aeroflot has increased its capacity by 15%. The airline was surpassed only by the reasonably new and low-cost IndiGo, which operates in the domestic market of India. Among the traditional carriers Aeroflot took the first place.

OAG agency conducts a top-20 rating based on the maximum passenger traffic that carriers can reach in 12 months.  Among the competitive advantages of the Aeroflot carrier is also a fleet with an average age of 4.2 years, which is “the youngest fleet among the airlines in the top 20”.

Last year, the Aeroflot Group took the 18th place in the world in terms of passenger traffic, and also strengthened its presence in strategic markets. According to the British portal Airline Network News (, Aeroflot has become the world leader in long haul transit between Europe and Asia – the most competitive market of world civil aviation.

According to Vitaly Savelyev, General Director of Aeroflot, the OAG rating confirms that the airline has finally returned to the elite of global aviation.

“We not only fulfill the tasks of our Development Strategy until 2025, but we do it ahead of schedule.” Even in difficult geopolitical conditions, Aeroflot has consistently strengthened its presence on the world market of air transportation, and we intend to keep this trend in 2018,” Saveliev.
