President Vladimir Putin suggested that Bashar Assad hold a ‘congress of the peoples of Syria.’ He stated this at the meeting with the Syrian president in Sochi on November 20th.

Putin said that he would like to hear from Assad “an assessment of the current state of affairs and prospects for the development of the situation.”

“The most important question, of course, is the question of a peaceful political settlement, a long-term settlement of the situation in Syria,” Putin said.

“And in the course of the process, we are counting on the active participation of the UN” Putin said.

Assad stated that he is ready to conduct a dialogue with all those who are interested in a political settlement in Syria.

The Russian-Iranian-Turkish summit on the settlement of the Syrian crisis will be held on November 22 in Sochi.
