BEIRUT, Lebanon – Lebanese President Michel Aoun called for the country’s annual Beirut marathon to become a sports protest in solidarity with former Prime Minister Saad Hariri and a call for his return, in an announcement made on Saturday from the Lebanese presidential palace in Beirut.

Aoun called on participants of the annual Beirut marathon “to run under the motto of the return of Prime Minister Saad Hariri to Lebanon.”

Aoun has not yet accepted Hariri’s resignation, who recently said he was stepping down from his position in a surprise announcement from Saudi Arabia.
