WATCH as millions of Cubans vote in municipal elections

HAVANA, Cuba – Millions of Cubans cast their vote in municipal elections on Sunday, the first-step towards choosing a successor to the current President Raul Castro.

Miguel Diaz-Canel, Cuban First Vice President said: “There will always be presidents in Cuba that defend the principles of the Revolution. It will be comrades that will be elected by the people and must go through all these processes and have to be people that should first be elected as deputies in the areas they represent and then later the National Assembly lawmakers choose as the new leader of the nation. Today the day is to talk about what we are doing and to talk about Fidel.”

Meanwhile, local voters expressed their enthusiasism for the elections.

“These elections are very important, it is the first time that we are having elections without the physical presence of our Commander in Chief, but he is still here with us. This is our commitment with the Revolution, Fidel and all Cubans will demonstrate today the commitment we have with the country,” Elena Frias, Cuban voter.
