NEW YORK, United States of America – Russia’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Vassily Nebenzya, expressed “deep disappointment” following North Korea’s latest missile launch on Wednesday, at a UNSC session in New York City.
He stressed that the US and South Korea should avoid conducting large-scale military exercises in December, with Nebenzya stating, “Today all countries involved must do everything they can not to provoke each other but rather to show restraint and not to allow further steps that could escalate tensions further.”
He said that a solution is possible, “only in the framework of a comprehensive military and political detente in eastern and northern Asia.”
On Wednesday North Korea announced the launch of a new type of intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBM) which could “target the entire area of mainland United States.”
The launch was the first since September 15, when North Korea fired a ballistic missile over the Japanese island Hokkaido, which eventually fell into the Pacific Ocean.
