The meeting of the Foreign Ministers of Russia and Great Britain, Sergey Lavrov and Boris Johnson, is taking place in Moscow.
Speaking about the main subjects of the talks, the Russian minister expressed the opinion that they should be aimed at improving bilateral relations.
“We are interacting with Great Britain in the UN Security Council, and despite opposing positions on a number of issues, we just need to cooperate,” Sergei Lavrov said.
He stressed that Russia is ready to cooperate on the basis of equality, mutual respect and the desire to find mutually acceptable agreements.
“When I look at the complexities in our relationship, whether it be Ukraine, the Western Balkans or what happens in cyberspace, I agree with you that it is important to be sincere and admit that these are obstacles in our relations now, “- explained the British Minister.
At the same time he urged not to limit themselves to these problems and expressed the hope to see more progress in bilateral cooperation in the field of culture and science.
Boris Johnson has cancelled several trips to Russia in the past and has been rather vocal with anti-Russian stances in the media.
