IDLIB, Syria – The back and forth has continued today between the Syrian Army and jihadist groups in Idlib province as pro-government forces liberate the town of Al-Khuwein for the second time today.
Earlier today the elite Tiger Forces, 4th Division and National Defense Forces liberated the town from the Al-Qaeda affiliated Al-Nusra Front, before the jihadists with help from Jaysh Al-‘Izza recaptured the town before pro-government forces could consolidate defenses, as reported earlier by FRN.
It is expected that now Al-Khuwein has been secured, jihadist forces will not be able to reclaim the town, especially as the Syrian Army has its eyes on the key town of Khan Sheikhoun.
Battles in the last few days have intensified in Idlib province in Syria’s northwest. This is the main stronghold of Al-Nusra and many other terrorist groups operating in Syria. The main goal for Syria in 2018 is to completely liberate the province after it was taken by jihadist forces in early 2015, with the exception of the Shi’ite towns of Fua and Kefraya.
