HMEIMIM, Syria – In a shock and unexpected move, Russian President Vladimir Putin has arrived in Syria for the first time since the war began in 2011.
He arrived on Monday morning at the Russian-controlled Hmeimim airport in Syria’s coastal Latakia province.
Since arriving at the airbase, he has ordered the start of withdrawing Russian troops from Syria.
It is not known at this time how many military personnel will be withdrawn from Syria.
This comes as ISIS is virtually defeated in Syria, and terrorist forces are on the retreat in the rest of the country.
