“The Pentagon’s reports of an external “threat” and potential danger from Russia and North Korea are aimed at the domestic consumer – more money is needed, but every thousand dollars increases tensions in the world”, said the first deputy head of the Defense Committee of the Council of Federation, Franz Klintsevich.

The US Armed Forces lag behind the modernization process of their main opponents, and cannot sufficiently resist the challenges in Europe and East Asia. They may lose a potential war with China or Russia, according to a study by the American center Rand.

“Even the very assumption of the possibility of a major US war with Russia or China raises questions to those who have voiced the idea.” What is behind this assumption: elementary cynicism, provocation, a misunderstanding of the substance of the subject, or something else? “- asked the deputy.

“The United States does not have sufficient funds to cope with the main challenges in Europe and East Asia …”. “In other words, give us money – and the more, the better.” The request is for the domestic consumer,” – the parliamentarian said.

But the US spending on armaments is the largest in the world – about ten times higher than the Russian defense budget, the politician added. “It’s clear that the Pentagon will swallow any amount – swallow it and not choke, while the authors of the report do not bother with the idea that every additional one thousand dollars spent by the US on armament strengthens the tension in the world that is already tipping the scale over,” he said.

“In general, the work of the American Rand Center can hardly be called an investigation, the same authors migrate from the report to report, getting wind of statements about Russia and China as the two main challenges to American national interests.” In my opinion, these allegations have already become boring.” said Klintsevich.
