BAGHDAD, Iraq – Baghdad plans to join the Astana talks on settling the Syrian crisis, Iraq’s Ambassador to Russia Haidar Mansour Hadi said during a meeting with Chairman of the Russian Federation Council (upper house) International Affairs Committee Konstantin Kosachev on Tuesday.
As an ambassador of my country, I want to ask the Russian leadership to invite Iraq to attend the talks in Astana,” Haidar said.
“We believe that our experience and our assistance will be needed in the political process of settling the Syrian crisis,” he continued.
The Eighth Syrian peace meeting held between Russia, Iran and Turkey will be held in the Kazakh capital of Astana on December 21-22.
