MAKHACHKALA, Russia – The Defense Ministry said on Tuesday that a Russian military police batallion that were serving in Syria have returned to Russia to the Dagestani capital of Makhachkala in Russia’s Caucasus region by two cargo planes.
“Since May 2017, the battalion’s personnel had fulfilled tasks on controlling the ceasefire implementation in the de-escalation zones, ensuring security of civilians during humanitarian efforts and escorting humanitarian convoys,” the ministry said.
The military police have been in Syria since December 2016 with the task of ensuring security in the de-escalation zones.
They also ensured the delivery of aid to such areas.
