MOSCOW, Russia – The Russian Defense Ministry said on Sunday that it was bewildered by the statement made by France’s Foreign Minister Jean-Yves Le Drian that attempted to downplay the Russian role in defeating ISIS.
“The defeat of IS [ISIS] in Syria is first of all result of actions by the Syrian leadership and governmental forces,” the ministry said.

“With support of the Russian Aerospace Force, the Syrian armed forces liberated from IS terrorists hundreds of settlements and returned under control of the legitimate leadership practically the entire territory of the country,” the statement continued.
The Defense Ministry then went onto say the US-led coalition only saw “success” when it mass bombed Raqqa and civilians.
France’s Foreign Minister Jean-Yves Le Drian incorrectly asserted that Russia had misappropriated the victory against ISIS in an interview with BFMTV and that coalition forces pushed ISIS away.
