Russians have chosen President Vladimir Putin as the politician of the year, according to a public opinion survey.
The poll was conducted on December 16-17 in 104 settlements of 53 constituent entities of the Russian Federation, showing that Putin was named politician of the year by an overwhelming majority.
Sociologists asked an open question, without the proposal of names, that is, the respondents themselves chose who would fit the definition. 48% of respondents named Putin the man of the year, the second most popular was Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov, he was named by 5% of respondents, the head of the Defense Ministry Sergei Shoigu – 4% of respondents.
In addition, the list includes the name of the leader of the Liberal Democratic Party of Russia, Vladimir Zhirinovsky, 4% of the respondents, followed by oppositionist Alexei Navalny and the head of the Communist Party Gennady Zyuganov with 1%. Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev, Chechnya’s leader Ramzan Kadyrov and journalist Ksenia Sobchak gained 1%. A total of 26% found it difficult to answer, another 10% said that none of the politicians fit this definition.
