Russia’s Ministry of Defense clear-out: 30 officials convicted for embezzlement

More than 30 people have  been convicted of embezzlement cases at the Ministry of Defense – in the framework of these investigations, almost all property  of the state was returned, spokeswoman Svetlana Petrenko said.

Recalling the case of former Defense Minister Anatoly Serdyukov, who was charged and released under an amnesty, Petrenko reported that Serdyukov had acknowledged the crime.

“The case did not end in nothing, our military investigators conducted a global investigation,” she said on the air of the Vesti FM radio station .

According to Petrenko, several dozens criminal cases were investigated, and many officials were brought to  responsibility for these cases.

“More than 30 people were convicted in these cases: recall -Oboronservice, Slavyanka, Voentelecom, and almost all the damage to the state was returned to them,” Petrenko said.
