Special services of the CIS countries need to cooperate to effectively monitor terrorism, said President Vladimir Putin.

“We are not indifferent to, of course, where terrorists will run off to after Syria,” the Russian leader said at a meeting with the heads of special services and security agencies of the CIS countries.

According to Vladimir Putin, the situation is acute, and it is  extremely important to monitor carefully.

“We understand the threats that this creates for our states, for our peoples. Therefore, cooperation between us is so important, ” he said.

Earlier, the head of the FSB, Alexander Bortnikov, speaking at a meeting of the Council of Heads of Security and Special Services of the CIS, said that after the defeat of terrorists in Syria and Iraq, their main center of concentration is Afghanistan. He also said that thanks to the activities of the special services, it was possible to prevent a series of terrorist attacks at the diplomatic missions of the CIS countries abroad.

It is estimated that 5,000 Russian nationals, originating from the North Caucasus, as well as 4,000 nationals of the CIS countries joined ISIS in Syria.
