The UN General Assembly has refused to recognize Jerusalem as the capital of Israel. In favour of the UN resolution against it were 128 countries, including Russia. The position of the United States was supported by only 8 countries – generally Israel and microstates. Probably, the pressure of Washington had something to do with it. Trump stated that the countries that supported the document would lose humanitarian aid and financial support.

The status of Jerusalem must remain the same, and any decisions aimed at changing it are void and therefore should be abolished. These are the main points of the resolution adopted by most countries at the UN General Assembly.

The US Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Nikki Haley, threatened “to take names” and remember anyone who supported the document.

“The United States will remember this day when the implementation of our right as a sovereign nation was the target of the attack in the General Assembly. We will remember this when we are asked again to make the world’s largest contribution to the United Nations.” said Haley.

This consumer approach to the work of the UN by the United States is  akin to saying “if we pay, we select the music” – it was embarrassing even to America’s closest allies, the European Union.

Ukraine decided not to vote at all on a matter of principle for world diplomacy.

Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu called the UN “the house of lies. The resolution adopted by the General Assembly is absurd.”

“Jerusalem is our capital, it has always been and always will be, I appreciate the fact that an increasing number of countries refuse to participate in this theater of the absurd. I want once again to express our special thanks to US President Donald Trump and Ambassador Nikki Haley for their strong defense of Israel and protection of rights, “said the Israeli Prime Minister.

President Erdogan was especially outraged by the bargaining that US representatives had lowered to.

“How do they call the US the cradle of democracy? The cradle of democracy is looking for support that can be bought for dollars. Mr. Trump, you can not buy Turkey’s democratic will with your dollars,” said the Turkish President.

Nevertheless, Nikki Haley stated that America will still open an embassy in Jerusalem. This is exactly what the American people want.

But here too the Trump administration is awaiting  disappointment. According to the latest survey of the University of Maryland, which was released in early December, 63 percent of Americans do not approve of the idea of moving their embassy from Tel Aviv.
