HMEIMIM, Syria – Earlier today Russian President Vladimir Putin made a surprise quick visit to Syria before leaving to Egypt to meet the country’s leader.
This was Putin’s first visit to Syria since the war began in 2011, as reported earlier by FRN.
As the video shows, Putin was welcomed by Syrian President Bashar al-Assad at the Russian controlled Hmeimim airbase in Latakia province.
At the airbase, Putin announced that Russia will begin withdrawing some military personnel as the war comes to a slow end with ISIS defeated and terrorist forces on the retreat.
Finishing in Egypt, Putin will then travel to Turkey to meet the country’s president, in what is a whirlwind day traveling from Russia to Syria, to Egypt, and then Turkey.
