BAGHDAD, Iraq – Joyful scenes were to be seen at Liberation Square in Baghdad on Sunday as the Iraqi military held a parade to celebrate the end of the war against ISIS.
Crowds gathered to celebrate the victory, carrying soldiers aloft and waving flags.
On December 9, the Iraqi Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi announced that country was now totally liberated from IS after Iraqi troops retook control of the Iraqi-Syrian border area, where the last pockets of resistance remained.
ISIS stormed through Iraq capturing large swathes of territory in 2014, including the second largest city of Mosul, and were threatening to take Baghdad.
