BALASHIKHA, Russia – Russian President Vladimir Putin said that Russia’s defence capability will be ensured by its peaceful foreign policy, as playing the role of “world police force” is “just too expensive,” speaking in the town of Balashikha near Moscow at an annual expanded Russian Defence Ministry Board meeting, Friday.

The Russian leader also stated that Russia won’t under any circumstances “enter into a meaningless arms race that will drain our economy.” He added the country should rely on “intelligence” in the area of defence instead of “military might.”

In addition during a meeting between Putin and the leadership of the Defence Ministry, Russian Defence Minister Sergei Shoigu reported that Putin’s “order to withdraw Russian troops from the territory of the Syrian Arab Republic has been carried out.”
