Vladimir Putin, in an out of character move, had interrupted his meeting of the Council for Culture and Art because of an urgent phone call.
Addressing the participants of the meeting, he apologized and said that he needed to urgently take a phone call – and that he would be right back.
Later it became known that the call came from the Saudi King Salman, with whom Putin discussed the launch of the ballistic missile in the direction of Riyadh by the Yemeni movement.
The leaders of the two states condemned the act, and Vladimir Putin called for a comprehensive investigation of the incident, noting that the Yemeni crisis must be solved exclusively by peaceful means, through national dialogue.
Since September 21, 2014, Yemen is in a civil war in which Shiite rebels and government troops are taking part. On February 26, 2015, a coalition of Arab states led by Saudi Arabia came to the aid of the Yemeni army.
