AFRIN, Syria – A group with connections to Al-Qaeda have officially announced that they are fighting alongside Turkish-led forces against the Kurdish People’s Protection Units (YPG) in Syria’s northwest canton of Afrin.

Ahrar al-Sham, who are seen in the photos, are a splinter group of the Al-Qaeda affiliated Al-Nusra Front.

In early 2016, Ahrar al-Sham overran an Alawite village and massacred women and children, where photographs of the dead people were proudly uploaded onto social media.

This same group have now uploaded photos of them on the Afrin battleground, while also showing off loot that they captured.

This also comes as a Russian military expert highlights why the Turkish-led offensive against the YPG is failing. Details can be read here.
