As Kurds and Turks battle in Syria, they extend their war into Turkey – 5 Turkish soldiers killed

BITLIS, Turkey – Five gendarmerie personnel have been killed and 12 wounded in an avalanche in the eastern Turkish province of Bitlis during a military operation, the Bitlis Governor’s Office said in a written statement on Sunday according to Hurriyet.

The statement also confirmed that the wounded personnel are not in a critical condition.

The military operation was against the Turkey-based Kurdistan Workers Party (PKK), whose Syrian branch, the People’s Protection Units (YPG) are currently at war with the Turkish military and their proxies in the Afrin canton in northwest Syria.
