IDLIB, Syria – A surprise counter offensive by jihadist forces in the Syrian northwestern province of Idlib saw them take back seventeen towns and villages from Syrian Army control.
The settlements taken by the Al-Qaeda affiliated Al-Nusra Front include Tall Salmo, Sarouj, Khuwayn, Tal Maruq, Umm Khalakhil, Al-Jadaniyah, Rabeea and Mashirfah.
However, those gains were not quickly held the Tiger Forces, an elite unit of the Syrian Army, quickly took back Al-Bayaiya Kabira, Saghira, Tall Salmo Foqani and Dibshiyah.
This has been a common tactic by the Syrian Army throughout the duration of the war where they quickly retreat from positions before smashing those formerly held positions with artillery fire and airstrikes from the Russian and Syrian air forces.
It is expected that all sites will be liberated again with the arrival of an elite Syrian Army regiment. Details can be read here.
The following video is from a member of the Tiger Forces who has confirmed the recapturing of these sites.
