AFRIN, Syria – The back and forth continues between Turkish-led forces, primarily the Turkish military and the Free Syrian Army, and the Kurdish People’s Protection Units (YPG).
For the third time in a short period, the control over Mount Barsaya in Afrin in northwest Syria has changed hands. Turkish-led forces, after capturing it, then being driven off the mountain, have yet again laid claim to it, with Turkish troopers pictured (above) on the mountain.
Intense battles have occurred over the mountaintop as it gives a vantage point over the surrounding region, including villages and towns.
For the battle of this mountain, several Kurdish fighters have been captured by the Turkish-led forces. Video and photo can be found here.
Turkey aims to expel the YPG from the Afrin canton as it considers them as a terrorist organization.
