AFRIN, Syria – With the Turkish military launching its operation against the Kurdish People’s Protection Units (YPG) militia in the northern Syrian canton of Afrin just a short while ago (details can be read here), they have already captured their first site.
The Turkish military and their Syrian proxies captured the town of Shinjel in the northwest of Afrin canton.

Before storming the town, Shinjel was rocked with a high volume of airstrikes from the Turkish air force.
Turkey has prioritized this operation as they consider the YPG to be the Syrian branch of the Turkey-based Kurdistan Workers Party (PKK), that they consider to be a terrorist organization.
