LATAKIA, Syria – Two Russian pilots have been killed when their Mi-24 helocopter crashed near the Syrian Hama military airfield, the Russian Defense Ministry revealed in a statement.
The incident occurred on New Years Eve 2017 and around 15km from the Ham airfield, the ministry explained.
The “Russian Mi-24 helicopter crashed while making a hard landing” after technical issues arose, the ministry said.
Although both pilots were killed, a technician survived the unfortunate crash and was transported to the Russian Airbase in Khmeimim in Syria’s Latakia province to be treated, and is expected to make a full recovery.
It was not revealed why it took days for the ministry to reveal this incident.
