Major air-defense exercises begin in Russia’s South, near Ukraine

A large-scale training of army aviation and air defense troops has been launched in the Southern Military District. In two regions of Russia, the Rostov Region and the Krasnodar Territory, participating squadrons consist of Mi-8AMTSh transport and combat helicopters Terminator, Ka-52 Alligator reconnaissance and strike helicopters, as well as Mi-28N and Mi-35 attack helicopters .

In addition, according to the press service of the Russian Defense Ministry, bombers and fighter jets Su-34 and Su-30SM are also taking part in the tactical exercises. From the ground, helicopters and airplanes are supported by the S-300 and S-400 surface-to-air missile systems. Their task is to detect all and any aircraft.

The military is also blocking off one of the highways of the Rostov region, on which it will land combat aircraft.
