“Through the electronic line, let my sincere congratulations be heard by Crimea and Sevastopol, Donetsk and Lugansk, brothers and sisters, your home is Ukraine,” Poroshenko said during the New Year’s address.

In addition, the Ukrainian leader congratulated the United States, Canada, as well as the countries of the European Union.

In addition, Poroshenko announced his intention to strengthen the Ukrainian army.

Russian senator Alexei Pushkov called Poroshenko’s New Year appeal cynical.

“After several years of shelling and a complete blockade, residents of Donbass heard from Poroshenko that ‘their home is Ukraine.’ Cynicism seems to have no borders,” the Russian senator said.
