Ksenia Sobchak has stated that “today the inhabitants of the Crimea are inferior in relation to the world.” It is not clear whether Sobchak, who is going to run for president, is entirely aware of which country she is running for – with statements like these.

She argued in particular, the fact that the region will not host the World Cup football games. In her opinion, such a decision was made, since “no one will go there.”

“The cities that will host the matches <…> were determined long before the Crimea became a part of the Russian state again.” said the head of the parliamentary committee for education, science, youth policy and sport Vladimir Bobkov.

According to him, the Crimeans will actively support their national team, the Russian national team, at the championship.

Bobkov said that in the Crimea there will be at least two fan zones, where sports fans will be able to watch the matches. “Many are also thinking about visiting the cities where matches will be held, so the Crimeans will not be left out of the World Cup,” he said.

State Duma deputy from United Russia, former Crimean prosecutor Natalya Poklonskaya, in turn, said that only “internal sabotage” could propel some politicians “to speculate on the inferiority of Crimeans.”

Similarly, according to Deputy Sergei Tsekov, who represents Crimea in the Federation Council, Sobchak does not know the history of the peninsula, “she does not understand how we lived in Ukraine, and she does not understand the events of  2013-2014.”
