DAMASCUS, January 10 – RIA Novosti. Government troops have regained control over the Abu Duhur airbase in Idlib province, a source at the scene informed RIA Novosti.

According to Ria Novosti’s source, the advanced units of the Syrian forces entered the base after they occupied the fortifications at the eastern side of the airfield.

It was possible to liberate the air base after fierce battles with the “Jebhat an Nusra” militia * with the use of aviation and artillery. In order to close in on the airfield, government troops drove out terrorists from twelve villages. According to the source, the surviving militants fled.

This month, the Syrian army has managed to knock out terrorists from dozens of settlements in the south of Idlib, as well as in the north of the province of Ham. Government troops also liquidated the guns of militants, armored vehicles, and pickups equipped with heavy machine guns.

The Abu Duhur air base is less than 40 kilometers from the city of Idlib, the main stronghold of Jebhat an Nusra. Terrorists seized it in September 2015.
