DAMASCUS, Syria – A Syrian Member of Parliament has called for his country to boycott Turkish products as a minimum response to Ankara’s occupation of areas in northern Syria.

Fares Shehabi, MP for Aleppo, made his call in the Syrian Parliament, according to his tweet.

“Today In the Syrian parliament, I asked the government to establish a special boycott office against all Turkish products. This is the least thing we can do against the ongoing Turkish assault on our land,” he tweeted yesterday.

Shehabi has a strong social media presence, a rarity in the English-language for Syrian politicians.

The call comes as Turkish-led forces attempt to occupy all of the Afrin pocket in northern Syria from Kurdish militias
