IDLIB, Syria – As the battle between Al-Qaeda affiliated Al-Nusra and the Syrian Army wages on the Idlib Axis (Southern Idlib Countryside-Northern Hama Countryside-Southern Aleppo Countryside), ISIS has joined the fray by attacking both.
ISIS began their assault by capturing several towns this week from the Al-Nusra Front as the latter struggles to contain the Syrian Army offensive on the Idlib axis.
This offensive by ISIS has meant that the terrorist group has launched attacks against pro-government forces near the Abu Dhuhour military airbase as the Syrian Army struggles to liberate the surrounding area from the Al-Nusra Front.
This ISIS offensive has meant that the Syrian Army has had to relocate its troops from its front with Al-Nusra to a front with ISIS. It is unlikely to significantly weaken the Syrian Army’s efforts, but it is a pestering annoyance that must eventually be confronted with full force.
