ISTANBUL, Turkey – President of Turkey Recep Tayyip Erdogan oversaw the reopening of a 120-year-old Bulgarian church in Istanbul on Sunday.
Also in attendance at the event were Turkish Prime Minister Binali Yildirim and Bulgarian Prime Minister Boyko Borissov.
In a speech, Erdogan congratulated those involved in the restoration work.
He also said that such places of worship secure people with the understanding that they are “free to practice [their] religion and [they] are under our protection”.
