AFRIN, Syria – Three Kurdish from Afrin and one from Idlib were filmed hiding in a shelter in Afrin on Wednesday, as the Turkish Operation ‘Olive Branch’ in Northern Syria to oust Kurdish groups continues.
The families, including small children, hide in the basement of one of the buildings, sharing a room and with some basic belongings.
“We have to sleep here in the cellar, because of fear of bombing, we are afraid to go out into the street,” said one of the inhabitants of the shelter.
The Turkish-led operation officially began a week ago but has made very little advancements against the Kurdish People’s Protection Units (YPG). A Russian military expert has explained their failures here.
