KOCAELI, Turkey – Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said “those who are creating trouble along our borders, who are betraying this country, they will pay the price,” during a speech in Kocaeli on Saturday.
“The PKK, PYD, YPG they will all pay. FETO will also pay. This is a fight of determination,” he stated.
The Turkey-based Kurdistan Workers Party (PKK) is the head of Syrian based Kurdish factions like the PYD and YPG.
The Turkish military are currently leading an operation to remove the Kurdish People’s Protection Units (YPG) from the northwest Syrian canton of Afrin. However, they have found it difficult to advance past YPG positions and have made little gains in the canton.
Turkish jets have also severely damaged an archaelogical site that is nearly 4,000 years old. Details can photos can be found here.
