MOSCOW, Russia – Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said “what we see shows that the US don’t want Syrian integrity,” speaking at an annual press conference in Moscow addressing the events of the last 12 months.
The Russian diplomat commented on the situation in the war torn country saying that the Astana peace process was starting to boost the Syrian peace settlement after “the Obama administration failed to meet its promises to distinguish the opposition from Al-Nusra and other terrorists.”
Russia had consistently requested that the US identify militant groups it supported that did not have ties to the Al-Qaeda affiliated Al-Nusra Front or other terrorist organizations, something it continued to not do despite saying it would.
This is unsurprising as it was revealed yesterday that the US does not care if the militants it trains join terrorist organizations. Full details of this can be read here.
