CARACAS, Venezuela – Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro announced he would run for re-election while speaking at an event celebrating the 60th anniversary of the Venezuelan coup in Caracas on Tuesday.
This comes as the The Lima Group and Canada rejected the decision taken by the Venezuelan government to call for early presidential elections at a conference in the Chilean capital of Santiago on Tuesday.
The Lima Group was formed last year by mostly right-wing governments to advocate for what it considers the restoration of democracy in Venezuela, despite Venezuela conducting the most elections than any other country in the past decade.
Its members include Argentina, Brazil who is ruled by an unelected president, Colombia and Mexico.
