AFRIN, Turkey – According to opposition sources, the Turkey-backed Syrian rebel coalition known as ‘Euphrates Shield’ has tens of child soldiers, most around 15-16 years old, within its ranks, Al-Masdar News reported yesterday.

This comes as Turkish-backed forces along with the Turkish military prepare to storm the Kurdish-held canton of Afrin in northern Syria. This is in the hope to remove the Kurdish People’s Protection Units (YPG) from power in this small part of Syria.
However, as Al-Masdar News published, it appears that child soldiers will be used in the operation, effectively breaking international law.
