BEIRUT, Lebanon – The Lebanese Prime Minister Saad Hariri ruled out entering government with the political wing of Hezbollah at a political rally in Beirut on Wednesday.
“We refuse any alliance with Hezbollah,” Hariri told supporters of his Future Movement party seated in the auditorium of the Beit international hall.
The prime minister was attending a ceremony commemorating the 13th anniversary of his father’s assassination. Rafic Hariri, also a former Lebanese prime minister, and 21 others were killed in a massive explosion outside the St. George Hotel in Beirut.
Hariri is also a Saudi dual citizen and created a crisis a political crisis in November 2017 when he resigned as Lebanon’s Prime Minister from Saudi Arabia and refused to return to Lebanon until many weeks later. This was in an effort to weaken Hezbollah but spectacularly failed.
