IDLIB, Syria – The Al-Qaeda affiliated Uyghur Jihadi Turkestan Islamic Party (TIP) has released propaganda pictures showing fortifications of its positions in rural Idlib province in northwest Syria.

The Uyghurs are a Muslim ethnic minority in western China. They are also a Turkic people ethnically, culturally and linguistically tied to other Turkic peoples such as Turks, Azeris and Uzbeks.

With the outbreak of the Syrian War, thousands of Uyghurs illegally entered Syria from Turkey to join jihadist groups. They have even begun colonizing areas of Idlib province, most significantly, the town of Jisr al-Shugour.

This also comes as earlier a Syrian Army commander warned that government soldiers, despite rapid advancements in Idlib province, are yet to reach elite terrorist formations, such as the TIP. Details can be read here.
