SAO PAOLO, Brazil – Workers’ unions rallied in Sao Paulo on Monday afternoon to protest against a proposed pension reform which has since ground to a halt in Congress.
The protest was part of a wider, national mobilisation in several regions. Demonstrators began to gather outside the Sao Paulo Museum of Art around 3pm local time.
At 5pm, a stretch of the avenue was completely blocked by protesters in the direction of the Consolacao district.
“The pension reform is an attack on the whole of the workers, but especially on the basic education teachers. We cannot take it,” said one protester.
