AFRIN, Syria – Turkish media has released drone footage of Turkish-led forces, primarily the Turkish military and their Syrian military proxies, battling the Kurdish People’s Protection Units (YPG) in the Syrian northwest canton of Afrin.
Turkey launched their so-called “Olive Branch Operation” against the YPG in an effort to rid the border region of the Kurdish militia that they consider to be a terrorist organization.

The YPG are the Syrian branch of the Turkey-based Kurdistan Workers Party that seek independence or autonomy for Kurdish-majority regions in eastern Turkey and have led a decades long insurgency against the Turkish state.
