An ex-Colonel of the GRU (military intelligence) Sergei Skripal, previously convicted in Moscow for state treason, was brought to the Salisbury Hospital on suspicions of poisoning.
Himself and a young woman who was with him became ill near a shopping center, when they both lost consciousness. The substance that caused the poisoning has not yet been established.
The local police confirmed the incident, but refused to confirm the identity of the hospitalized. “We do not comment the names of the victims,” a Wiltshire County police spokeswoman told RIA Novosti.
Skripal was pardoned by President Putin and, along with two other convicts for espionage, was exchanged for 10 people detained in the US. He has since lived in the UK.
